CARPE DIEM - SEIZE THE CARP!

Twin Lakes Conservancy invites your volunteer help to remove invasive carp from our lakes during the carp's spring spawning season. Carp are problematic fish. They spread invasive plant species (like Eurasian Water Milfoil), increase algae growth, disturb native fish habitat, and cause decreased water clarity. Please read below in "UPCOMING EVENTS" to learn more about how you can help to reduce the population of carp in our lakes.

Photographers Needed!

Calling all Twin Lakes photographers. If you have photographs to share that capture Twin Lakes, and or the flora and fauna living in or around our lakes, please share your photo files with us so that we can feature them in our website gallery, or on our Instagram page! Email your files to twinlakesconservancy@gmail.com

Twin Lakes Management Plan

In 2020, the Conservancy received a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to create a lake management plan. TLC brought on board Onterra, LLC, a lake management planning consulting firm, to develop scientific data about the lakes, and guide the creation of our plan.  Since that time, a group of Twin Lake Conservancy members, under the direction of Onterra, have created a draft implementation plan which represents the path that TLC will follow to meet our lake management goals.

TLC's planning committee and Onterra are close to finalizing the plan. Once the plan is fully approved by the DNR, TLC will begin implementation of all recommendations. TLC may also become eligible for additional grant funds to help fulfill our goals. Once the plan is finalized, highlights will be available on this site.

CARPE DIEM! Seize the Day & Seize the Carp

  • Late April/ Early May, when water temperatures reach between 55 and 60 degrees, carp begin to spawn near our shorelines. During this time, carp can be easily netted, speared, or removed by hand.
  • Everyone can do this and there are no season limits or bag limits for taking carp from Twin Lakes.
  • If you are a Wisconsin Resident, no fishing license is required to take carp with a landing net. Those over 16 years old must have a license if bow fishing, spear fishing or hand fishing.
  • Non Wisconsin Residents (regardless of age) must have a fishing license for all types of carp fishing/removal.
  • Carp (pictured to the left) have large scales, a long dorsal fin base, and two pairs of long barbels (whiskers) in its upper jaw. Do not take other fish in your nets.
  • Please be humane a kill the carp immediately upon bringing to shore. Once dead, they can be disposed of by throwing them in the woods (the local wildlife will help with disposal), use to fertilize your garden, or bag and throw in garbage.
  • Send us your total carp count and pictures by using the email button below
